CtrlShare

CtrlShare is an M-Files vault application that hands a checked-out document to Microsoft OneDrive so several people can edit it at once, then brings the edited file back into the vault as a new version. A vault administrator configures it; end users see two extra commands on the document.

M-Files check-out is exclusive by design: one person holds the document, everyone else waits. That is the right behaviour for a controlled document, and the wrong behaviour for the hour before it is finalised, when four people need to be in it together. CtrlShare bridges the two — the co-authoring happens in Office, the version history and permissions stay in M-Files, and the document cannot leave its workflow state while a session is open.
